Tapas Roy resigns as TMC MLA

  • TMC MLA Tapas Roy resigns, citing lack of party's support after ED raids at his residence in January
  • Says, "the party didn't stand by me, no one called me and comforted my family"
  • Further lashing out at party's woking method he asserted 'I do not support the way the Sandeshkhali issue was handled'

Baranagar MLA Tapas Roy, also serving as the TMC deputy chief whip in the assembly, announced his resignation, bitterly criticizing the party leadership for allegedly failing to support him during a recent raid by the ED at his residence in January. Roy submitted resignation letter to the party on March 1, returned vehicle and security, resigned from the post of MLA today.

Expressing his disappointment, Roy stated "the party did not stand by me. No one called me and comforted my family. Didn't call or call me either." 

"I am really disappointed with the way the party is functioning. I am fed up with so many allegations of corruption levelled against the party and the government. Secondly, I do not support the way the Sandeshkhali issue was handled," he told media before announcing his resignation.

Roy's decision to step down comes amidst lingering tensions within the TMC, notably his longstanding grievances regarding ministerial appointments and internal conflicts with party members. Despite winning from Baranagar three years ago.

"I have been a loyal soldier of the party for the last 25 years. But I did not get my due," he said. 

Senior TMC leaders Kunal Ghosh and Bratya Basu met Roy at his residence this morning in an attempt to pacify him.
